With the PCB mounted to a flat heatsink, the gap between the CPU and the heatsink is 0 to 0.3mm, with a typical value of 0.1mm.

A high-compliance thermal pad with a thickness of 0.5mm is recommended. As an example, RS 915-6039 works well.
