CHERRY Launches High-Performance System-on-Module for Advanced Robotics and Smart Systems
Vienna, May 08, 2024 – CHERRY today unveiled its new System-on-Module (SoM), the TIGER SOM-RK3588-Q7, engineered to deliver exceptional computational performance, the ability to connect multiple high-resolution cameras, deep learning capabilities, and state-of-the-art security functions.
Core features of the TIGER SOM-RK3588-Q7:
TIGER SOM-RK3588-Q7 is based on Rockchip’s high-end, low-power SoC RK3588, featuring an octa-core CPU with four ARM Cortex-A76 and four ARM Cortex-A55, an ARM Mali-G610 GPU, and an NPU with up to 6 TOPs.
The CPU enables both ARM Cryptographic Extension for wire-rate AES cryptography and Advanced SIMD vector processing.
Equipped with a triple-core NPU, the module supports multi-task and multi-scenario operations based on deep learning frameworks including TensorFlow, Caffe, Pytorch and others. It is ideally suited for real-time object detection and scene recognition in various applications.
Four MIPI CSI interfaces provide native support for cost-effective high-resolution cameras.
Featuring an optional Secure Element certified to EAL6+ and a secure boot mechanism guaranteeing that only signed images can run on the device, the SoM ensures government-grade security for the identification and storage of keys. This enables cloud services such as remote software management and preventive device management to be rendered while maintaining the highest level of cybersecurity.
Dr. Stefan Roth, Managing Director of CHERRY Embedded Solutions, states, “TIGER SOM-RK3588-Q7 is part of our SoM series, which has been specially designed to meet the needs of demanding intelligent mobile IoT applications. Developed and manufactured in Austria, it perfectly combines reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency. Numerous hardware and software customization options ensure optimum tailoring to the individual requirements of our customers.”
TIGER is particularly suited for demanding applications in areas such as computer vision.
Typical use cases include:
Autonomous Mobile Robots: Empower robots with the ability to navigate complex environments autonomously.
Video Surveillance: Enhance security systems with advanced processing capabilities for real-time analysis.
Smart Displays: Drive intelligent, high-resolution display solutions with superior image processing technology, voice and gesture control.
RGo Robotics and Theobroma Systems Announce a New Solution for Intelligent Robots
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., USA / VIENNA, Austria - (March 07, 2024) – RGo Robotics (RGo), a pioneer in artificial perception for mobile machines, and Theobroma Systems, a CHERRY Group company and a provider of high-quality System-on-Modules and Single-Board Computers for a wide range of applications, have announced the immediate availability of an integrated solution powered by RGo’s Perception Engine™ on Theobroma’s JAGUAR board.
The integrated solution is based on Theobroma’s new JAGUAR Single-Board Computer SBC-RK3588-AMR. JAGUAR has been designed and optimized, in terms of connectivity, real-time processing power, memory and energy efficiency for advanced robotics applications powered by AI and visual perception. The integrated solution can be quickly and effortlessly integrated into a wide range of industrial robots such as autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and automated guided vehicles (AGVs), as well as professional service robots such as those used in transportation, hospitality and agriculture.
RGo’s Perception Engine is fully integrated into JAGUAR. Installations on customer platforms demonstrate the groundbreaking capabilities of the joint solution. It can track the robot pose, location and heading robustly and reliably to centimeter-scale accuracy. It works reliably in dynamic, unstructured or repetitive environments, indoors and outdoors, and on fast-moving machines such as forklifts and tugger carts. The technical advantages of JAGUAR together with RGo’s software enable robot manufacturers to quickly upgrade to state-of-the-art visual perception.
JAGUAR incorporates Rockchip’s RK3588 SoC that features a powerful octa-core CPU, a Mali G610 GPU and an NPU with up to 6 TOPs and supports up to four cost-effective MIPI CSI cameras.
“The new JAGUAR platform with our Perception Engine allows robot manufacturers to easily upgrade their machine with visual perception. The hardware is designed for industrial mobile robots and has all the functionality and connectors needed for the entirety of the robotic solution’s lifecycle, from initial integration to series production. Its reliability, affordability and ease of integration makes the solution an appealing option for robot manufacturers when considering whether to use visual perception,” says RGo’s CEO and co-founder, Amir Bousani. “The platform is powerful enough to run our advanced perception technology and can leave room for the robot control software.”
“Theobroma Systems, a CHERRY Group company, has a proven history of reliable, high-quality embedded systems for many industries. Both the development and production of JAGUAR are carried out by a closely coordinated, experienced team in Vienna in the very heart of Europe. This ensures seamless integration of software and hardware, and top manufacturing quality at a highly competitive price, making JAGUAR the perfect platform for RGo’s Perception Engine in a wide range of robotic products. In this way, the joint solution offers a perfect balance between performance and cost, enabling manufacturers of robots and industrial automation machines to rapidly open up new business areas with innovative products,” says Dr. Stefan Roth, managing director at Theobroma Systems.
The RGo team will be available to answer questions at Modex 2024 in Hall A, Booth 9518 (March 11-14 at the Atlanta Expo Center) and at LogiMAT in Hall 6, Stand D25 (March 19-21 at the Stuttgart Convention Center).
Based in Vienna, Austria, CHERRY Embedded Solutions (formerly Theobroma Systems) develops and manufactures reliable and robust System-on-Modules (SoM), Single-Board Computers (SBC) and Full-Custom Design devices (FCD) for a global customer base. CHERRY Embedded Solutions’ high-quality embedded systems are the basis of smart devices in the global Internet of Things (IoT). Development kits for evaluation purposes and technical services along the product’s entire life cycle round off the offering.
